Tired of staring at the same four walls with television and takeout every Friday night? Break the monotony with something completely different-learn to make glass beads with your special someone! In this 2-hour introductory workshop you will learn the fundamentals of glass beadmaking using a gas and oxygen-fueled torch and soft glass. At the end of the evening, round out your date with a complimentary glass of wine and light snack.
Topics covered include safety, tools and equipment, properties of glass, manipulation of glass with a focus on heat control, annealing and glass compatibility, and finishing beads. Students will be introduced to the use of heat and gravity to shape molten glass. Each student will make between 3-5 beads in this class. Ideas for turning your beads into finished pieces (keychains or pendants) will be discussed. No experience is necessary and all materials are included.
