WESTBOROUGH- An opening reception for “Natural Surroundings,” showcasing the work of Westborough photographers Nancy Szostak Wright and Kaleigh Wright, will be held on Saturday, May 19th from 6-9pm at Elsie Kaye Glassworks Art Studio & Boutique in Westborough. Much of the Wrights’ work celebrates nature, with works that are both haunting and complex, such as “Rise Above,” which portrays a solitary hummingbird perched high atop a tree branch. Others, such as “Fly in the Right Direction” depicting a bluebird mid-flight, are so crisp and vivid it’s almost hard to believe you’re looking at a photograph. Many of their images are printed on thin sheets of glass, making them appear almost translucent. Other photo art includes tabletop panels, framed art prints, ceramic ornaments, canvas hanging prints and greeting cards.
Nancy Szostak Wright has been viewing life from behind the lens for more than 30 years. Mostly self-taught, she has completed workshops with Nikon, deCordova Museum and Worcester Art Museum. She enjoys catching candid moments, using her zoom lens to discretely and creatively capture images of people, animals and landscapes. Nancy muses, “For years, people have been telling me I should do something with my photography. Viewing the world through my lens is fun; sharing that view with everyone is even more fun, not just so you can see what I saw, but so you can feel what I felt.”
Nancy’s daughter Kaleigh caught the photography bug after she earned second place in the Westborough Community Land Trust’s photo competition in 2012. The win sparked a new passion that would ultimately earn her accolades through Westborough High School’s AP Photography class. When asked what makes photography so fun for her, she replied, “I’ve always enjoyed capturing the seemingly small moments that make me happy. I’m drawn to nature, animals, architecture, and candid people shots. What I love most though, is going on adventures with my friends with the hope of finding new and unexpected ways to capture the world around me.” Kaleigh just completed her first year at Stonehill College.
Together, Nancy and Kaleigh have started wrightpix photo gifts, turning their images into artful pieces designed to inspire, and bring the gift of positivity into people’s lives. As just one of over 30 New England artists featured at Elsie Kaye Glassworks, wrightpix photo gifts embodies the creative expression of this unique artisan boutique.
Join us for complementary refreshments, door prizes and casual conversation, as Nancy and Kaleigh share their work, their technique and what motivates them. Many pieces will be available for purchase.
