No more “I’m Bored!”
After-School Teen Workshops at Elsie Kaye Glassworks
It may be cold outside but it doesn’t have to be boring! If your teen needs a safe creative outlet, this winter, then this is for you!
We’ve modified our popular teen after-school workshops to give your teens a safe place to design jewelry and explore their creative skills.
After School Art: Introduction to Flameworking - Glass Bead Basics
For the teenager that’s just starting out with flameworking (glass beadmaking) we’ve got the perfect introductory class where they can get comfortable with the tools and materials - and walk away with a piece of jewelry made with their own handcrafted beads!
Your teen will learn the basics of glass beadmaking and practice making beads by manipulating soft glass with our gas and oxygen-fueled torches. Each week, they’ll make between 6-8 beads and in the final session, we’ll put it all together for a finished bracelet, necklace or keychain for them to use and keep.
Because we have limited seats to protect our participants, we’re running several different sessions to accommodate our students. These classes are open to teens ages 11 and over.
- Winter 1 - Begins Tuesday January 26th for 4 sessions
- Winter 2 - Begins Tuesday February 23rd for 4 sessions
- Spring 1 - Begins Tuesday March 23rd for 4 sessions
- Spring 2 - Begins Tuesday April 20th for 4 sessions
This four-week course runs at our studio once a week from 4:00-5:30pm EST, so they’ll be home with plenty of time for dinner. All materials are provided for our students and no experience is necessary for our introductory classes!

After School Art: Flame-working II for Teens-Glass Beads
For our advanced students who have already taken the introductory class and are competent on the torch, we’ll take their skills to the next level.
Here, your teens will build on prior skills and explore the finer details of glass beadmaking. They'll learn techniques such as advanced encasing, complex and twisted stringer work, and we'll focus on glass control for intricate dot work, masking and layering. Students will also incorporate other interesting materials into their work, such as silver glass shards and raw metals, which add depth and dimension. At the end, we’ll put it all together in a necklace, bracelet, or keychain created with their designs.
Because we have limited seats to protect our participants, we’re running several different sessions to accommodate everyone. These classes are perfect for teens ages 11 and over who have already mastered the introductory class.
