May Spotlight : Caroline Quick of CQ Glassworks

Nothing Says Spring Like Color!

May Artist Spotlight : Caroline Quick of CQ Glassworks

At Elsie Kaye Glassworks, we love to play with hot glass. So when we find a kindred spirit, we can’t resist working with them!  That’s why we just had to carry artwork and gifts by Caroline Quick of CQ Glassworks. All of her functional tableware, home accents, and whimsical ornaments are a lovely blend of fused glass elements that balance bold colors and transparency.  Having studied art in Edinburgh, Scotland you can see how Caroline’s glass art has been inspired by the landscape of New England and of her homeland of Scotland.

Using glorious colors in visual creations is a personal passion for Caroline - and for good reason. There was a time when she lost her eyesight temporarily, which had a profound effect on her. Since then, Caroline is thankful every day for what she sees around her and is able to create.

Caroline is a natural creative, happiest when she has a glass cutting tool, paintbrush or camera in hand. Fun fact: It is not unusual for her to paint an entire room in her home to match or contrast with a favorite ornament!

As a young woman, she made a tough career choice between nursing and the arts, and it wasn’t until her move to Massachusetts that the opportunity came to pursue her passion for kiln-formed fused glass.

Caroline’s first snowy winter in the U.S. and her love of geometric symmetry and noticing the complex patterns snowflakes form in different temperatures inspired her to create her first snowflake ornament.

In the beginning, she simply made these gifts for friends and family - and the business has grown from there. Now her glass art sells internationally and more locally her work can be seen in galleries and shops around New England and New Jersey.

She now lives in the middle of Vermont in the small town of Bristol, on a 200-year-old farm with one of those iconic red barns that is surrounded by the Green Mountains. It’s a perfect location to enjoy her own workshop space, make beautifully crafted gifts, and a space in which she hopes to start giving workshops and teaching her craft.
