In this 4-week workshop, students will build on the skills they learned in our Flameworking I classes. Students will take their glass beadmaking skills to the next level, with techniques such as advanced encasing, complex and twisted stringer work, as well as detailed stringer control for intricate dot work, masking and layering. Students will also learn to incorporate raw metals and silver glass chards to add depth and dimension to their beads.
Please note, this is an intermediate class, for students who are comfortable and competent on the torch. For students who have never taken a glass beadmaking class (or who prefer a refresher) we offer a beginner workshop on Tuesdays.
Open to students ages 11 and older who have taken previous flame working workshops at Elsie Kaye Glassworks.
We value the safety of our staff and our students and have gone to great lengths to ensure we're taking as much care as possible to prevent the spread of Covid - 19. Registration is limited to 5 students to allow for social distancing and participants must wear face masks. Students will be spread out along our large workbenches, and will be protected by individual Plexiglas shields. Each student will receive his/her own apron and personal set of tools, which will be disinfected after each session. In addition, we run our ventilation system during the entire session (6600 cfm capacity, built for our glass beadmaking classes) and have a newly-installed high quality HEPA filter system in the studio. We also monitor the Covid case numbers daily, and will schedule a makeup session whenever we feel that it is unsafe to have students in the studio. Read more about our Covid policies here.
